When you are planning a wedding, it is easy for your play-list to fall down the list of priorities behind the wedding dress, your venue and who to cull off your too-long wedding guest list.
You will want music for your first dance as well as for music for your guests to dance along too. Here we list some of the best rock songs for weddings.
Pachelbel – Canon Rock in D Major
Canon in D’ by Pachelbel is a classic, but you can rock it down the aisle with this amazing electric guitar version. Walking down the aisle has never been so cool.
Journey – When You Love A Woman
‘When you love a woman, You see your world inside her eyes’ so sings Steve Parry from the American rock band. With orchestral sounds and some amazing guitar riffs this is one of the best choices for your first dance song.
Jet – Are You Gonna Be My Girl
A full on rock n roll song, it is the best first dance song for weddings where the couple are anything but traditional. Alternatively add it to your play-list to get everyone up and rocking your wedding.
Oasis – Champagne Supernova
You can choose many Oasis songs for your wedding play-list, but Champagne Supernova’s lyrics ‘Cause we don’t believe / That they’re gonna get away from the summer / But you and I will never die’ will have your wedding guests throw their heads back and join in with the singing.
Queen – Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Queen have a song for every occasion, but this is the best for either a lively first dance or for dancing down the aisle to after your ceremony. ‘We Are the Champions’ or ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ are best saved for the end of the night.
The Cure – Love Song (Acoustic Version)
With lyrics like ‘Whenever I’m alone with you / You make me feel like I am home again / Whenever I’m alone with you / You make me feel like I am whole again’ it deserves a place on the song list of all weddings. For a first dance version, try the cover version of this song by Adele.
Kings of Leon – Use Somebody
Because ‘Sex on Fire’ is not appropriate for a first dance, and would be best left until later in the celebrations, Use Somebody is a classic rock song that is easy to dance to.
Bryan Adams – Everything I Do, I Do It For You
The title says it all and it really is perfect for a wedding first dance with the words ‘Look into my eyes / You will see / What you mean to me / Search your heart / Search your soul / And when you find me there / you’ll search no more’. It may have been a bit overplayed, but it still remains a great song.
Metallica – Nothing Else Matters
Heavy metal fans need to include rock gods Metallica at their weddings. ‘Nothing Else Matters’ is romantic and rocky.
Madness – It Must Be Love
This is another great song to when leaving your wedding ceremony. Madness will always put a smile on every faces and get them ready to party.
Aerosmith – I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing
One of the best rock songs for weddings ever. With lyrics that say it all: ‘And I just wanna stay with you / Just stay in this moment forever, forever and ever’.
You Really Got Me – The Kinks
The riff in this song is iconic, you will instantly recognise it at all weddings you attend. To really add to the atmosphere, ask your wedding band to perform it.
Led Zeppelin – Thank You
A love song written by Robert Plant to his wife.. ‘If the sun refused to shine / I would still be loving you / Mountains crumble to the sea / There will still be you and me’. You might also want to consider Chris Cornell’s cover of this song.
Kings of Leon – On Call
This gorgeous Kings of Leon song is all about being there for someone. It is ideal for weddings where you want a meaningful song with a rocky edge.
Foo Fighters – Everlong (Acoustic)
Everlong is a beautiful rock song with simplistic yet powerful lyrics. Dave Grohl records his music acoustically before giving them the rock treatment, so is easy to find. Grohl said this song is about “being connected to someone so much that not only do you love them physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with them you harmonize perfectly.”
The Beatles – I Want to Hold Your Hand
There is an excess of Beatles songs to choose from when it comes to weddings, but we love the slightly more rocky edge of ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’.
